Treasures from the past: the heritage value of amateur film.

Amateur film has existed for as long as professional film, but it took much longer to find its way into the archive. Nowadays the cultural and historical value of amateur film is widely recognized. But what is the value exactly? Who excavates these treasures from the past? Various examples will be shown to illustrate the value of amateur film and the ways it has been re-valued by others.

Valentine Kuypers is curator at the Netherlands Institute for Sound and Vision and chair of the Amateur Film foundation. The Netherlands Institute for Sound and Vision holds a collection of 7500 amateur films, capturing one hundred years of history.

The seminar is in Dutch and will be translated simultaneously.
